Liverpool have been given fresh hope in their pursuit of Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho.

The former World Player of the Year had been linked to a move to Anfield but noises from the players camp that he was happy at AC Milan led to those rumours being scotched. But comments from the player’s agent [and brother] appear to suggest that the Reds might be successful if they show enough ambition to sign the former Barcelona playmaker.

“Football evolves in such a rapid fashion,” said Roberto De Assis. “Today a transfer away from Milan seems difficult, but I don’t know what will happen in the next few days. Everything can change suddenly.”

Liverpool would have to decide whether they are prepared to pay huge wages for a 30-year-old whose best days are behind him but if he could recapture some of his old form he would be a real asset while the businessman at the club could be confident of getting their money back through shirt sales. Ronaldinho’s contract with AC Milan running out in June, he will be free to negotiate with any club he likes in January, with the option of moving on a free in the summer.

However, the Rossoneri would reportedly be willing to let him go for nothing as early as next month to save money on his wages – and there is no doubt that he would attract plenty of suitors.

Last week, Roy Hodgson denied that he had ever thought about signing Ronaldinho.

As soon as he was asked about him though, that was no longer the case – and that can be repeated for Luis Suarez.

Liverpool are not at the head of the queue to sign Ronaldinho – world player of the year in 2004 and 2005, but with the touted move back to Brazil looking less and less likely to materialise due to his wages, a marquis signing could have a kick starting effect on the Reds’ season.

Not only that, but as Sportingo says, whichever team signs him would make a killing in shirt sales and marketing.
