Bayern Munich veteran Mark van Bommel has been told he can leave in January after falling out with coach Louis van Gaal.

The Dutch hardman, 33, will be allowed to go cheap and Bayern are touting him around the game, with Manchester City and Tottenham believed to be interested.

Whatever you may think of battling midfielder Mark Van Bommel and his penchant for late challenges, there is no denying his pedigree. The 33 year old Dutchman has won seven domestic titles in three countries and has a mass of Champions League experience and of course was part of the Holland side that reached the World Cup Final in the summer and it seems that Bayern Munich are happy to let the veteran leave.

Both Tottenham and Manchester City appear very interested in signing the former PSV and Barcelona man but clearly the Eastlands side may be able to offer more in the way of wages than their north London rivals but Van Bommel may feel, having seen Spurs in action in the Champions League this season, that Harry Redknapp’s side may be a more promising prospect.

The fact that such an established player would be available for just £4m may just be too good to be true for either side to ignore.
