Investors in Qatar are pondering a £200m buyout of Newcastle United.

The Toon are top of a shortlist of Premier League clubs being eyed by a group of companies from the oil-rich nation, which has won the right to host the 2022 World Cup finals.

Newcastle are officially off the market after controversial owner Mike Ashley’s proposed sale to Barry Moat collapsed to years ago.

But Ashley, who has invested £280m in the club, is thought to be willing to sell up for £200m. (Daily Mirror)

Interesting news. Would Mike Ashley sell now? With the St James’ Park club seemingly moving onwards and upwards, albeit after sacking a perfectly good manager for no apparent reason. However, maybe if a decent enough offer comes his way the Newcastle United owner may see the pound signs and work out just how many Pizzas he can purchase with the Qatar bid, then perhaps he will accept.

Would Newcastle United supporters be happy with new investment from abroad? It is a case of Anyone But Ashley?
