Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has identified Wolfsburg defender Simon Kjaer as the solution to his centre-back problem.
The Blues have been short of central defenders all season following Ricardo Carvalho’s summer departure and injuries to John Terry and Alex.
And, according to reports in Germany, Ancelotti is ready to reignite his interest in Kjaer, who he tracked during the summer.
Then, the Denmark international moved from Palermo to Wolfsburg, but it is thought a bid of around £7m would be enough to prize him away from the Bundesliga, little over six months after his arrival. (TalkSPORT)

It seems fair to say that Carlo Ancelotti has found himself with a paucity of options when it comes to his centre back pairings and when the club was without stalwart John Terry this was even more evident and the purchase of another defensive option must be high up on the Chelsea boss’s transfer wish-list.

However, would Wolfsburg allow the Danish international to leave so soon after his arrival at the club? The Bundesliga side fought long and hard to capture the former Palermo man and would surely not sell the 21 year old for just £7m given that they paid the Serie A side nearer £10m for his services in July.

Carlo Ancelotti may well see the highly rated youngster as the long replacement for 30 year old captain John Terry.

Kjaer is a solid customer who is a big strong physical presence and would surely jump at the chance of a move to the Premier League champions. Wolfsburg boss Steve McClaren faces an uphill task to turn around his fortunes at the club who are currently in 14th spot and may well also lose the services of their goal machine Edin Dzeko in the summer, if not earlier.
