Liverpool are planning an ambitious January move for Man City striker Emmanuel Adebayor as Roy Hodgson looks to boost his attacking options. Roberto Mancini appears to be ready to offload the Togo international may well be keen on making a move to Anfield that would at least give him a chance of securing regular first team football.

Hodgson may well feel that the 25 year old front man would act as an ideal foil for Fernando Torres and Adebayor has the proven Premier League scoring ability that would justify the inevitable high cost of his wages and indeed the fee that Man City would demand for a player they paid £25m for in the summer of 2009.

Any move could reportedly begin with a loan spell that would lead to Liverpool being given first refusal to buy the strong target man. Emmanuel Adebayor netted a creditable 14 goals in his first season at the City of Manchester Stadium but has only been given two Premier League starts thus far this season.

Manchester City are reportedly looking to cut costs ahead of making potential new signings and would accept bids of around £16-18m for the former Arsenal striker.
