Tottenham are rumoured to be considering a shock move to bring former striker Dimitar Berbatov back to White Hart Lane in the summer. The Bulgarian international has had a good season, albeit in patches, but may well find it harder to secure a regular spot in the Old Trafford starting eleven next term when Mexican youngster Javier Hernandez may well get more first team opportunities.

Harry Redknapp has not been overly happy with the inconsistent performances of his current crop of strikers who have managed to net just six out of the club’s 25 Premier League goals and has therefore been linked with a move to bring in reinforcements as the likes of Robbie Keane and Roman Pavlyuchenko continue to be strongly linked with moves away from the north London club.

Even though Berbatov has netted 11 Premier League goals this season it is worth noting that eight of those arrived in just two games and that the 29 year old had also managed to build up a run of 10 games without a goal before he hit five against Blackburn Rovers. Many have noted that a great deal of his success in front of goal is dependent on the service he receives from Wayne Rooney.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man has been linked with moves back to the Bundesliga but may well be tempted by a move back to the north London club who helped make him the big name striker that he is today and if Sir Alex Ferguson decides that after three up and down seasons at Man United it is time to sell Berbatov then he may well be keen on a move back to Tottenham.

Even though United spent £30m for Berbatov back in September 2008 some sources believe they would accept offers of around £18m as Sir Alex Ferguson continues to look to plan for the future and therefore looking at giving the likes of Hernandez more chances to impress.
