Tottenham Hotspur are ready to step up their pursuit of Newcastle United star Andy Carroll with a £15 million bid as it appears increasingly likely the striker could be sold in January. UK understands Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is ready to offer out-of-favour players Robbie Keane and David Bentley in the deal as he looks to add firepower to his forward line.

The 21-year-old is seen by Tottenham as their most attainable target in the new year, and Newcastle owner Mike Ashley appears prepared to cash in on his hottest talent despite public statements that Carroll is not for sale.

Newcastle are likely to hold out for a deal worth £20m, and new Toon boss Alan Pardew has been made aware that such a deal would be hard to turn down for the cash-strapped club. (

Newcastle United would need quite some persuading to accept any offer for their young striker Andy Carroll but if the England international forces for a departure, and some sources state that the 21 year old is unhappy with the recent sacking of Chris Hughton, then perhaps a deal that sees two quality players going to St James’ Park as part of the deal would be tempting?

Given the vast experience that Robbie Keane has at Premier League level and David Bentley’s potential to kick start his career into gear, perhaps such an offer will tempt Alan Pardew? Harry Redknapp is reportedly not all that happy with the lack of goalpower his current crop of strikers have displayed this season.

Andy Carroll has netted a very impressive ten goals in 16 Premier League starts this season, a very healthy return that has led to a great deal of interest in his services from many of the Premier League’s leading sides and the Toon Army will do well to scare off prospective suitors.
