Read the statement below from under fire Inter Milan boss Rafa Benitez and see if you can see anything within the text that makes little or no sense.

“There are three possibilities for the club. One, 100% support for the coach and buy four or five players to build a stronger team with competition among the players to be able to carry on winning matches and trophies.

“Two, carry on like this without a project, without planning, and go ahead with one person to blame, for the whole season.
“The third,” he added, “is to speak to my agent to reach an agreement if there is not this support. Simple.”

That’s right. Rafa Benitez is saying that he needs new players as he feels he needs a stronger team to win trophies. This is of course the same team that Jose Mourinho happily led to countless successes, including the treble last season.

As a result of this statement Inter Milan Preisdent Massimo Moratti is said to be livid with the Spaniard as clearly he is not as much of a fool as Benitez took him for. Benitez really does have incredible sheer guts to make such an announcement but if he really thinks he can try and lay the blame for his inept performance as Inter Milan boss on the lack of talent at the club then he really must have a screw loose.

Remember that Mr. Moratti made sure that Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho did not nab any of his former players and indeed no important players have been sold.

Clearly this is a rather cack-handed attempt to detract attention from the fact that he has somehow taken a wildly successful Inter Milan team and failed miserably in his job. Remember this is a team that has won the Serie A title five seasons on the trot, and where are they currently in the domestic table? Seventh! That is outside a European qualification spot!

Even if the Nerazzurri won their two games in hand they would still be short of the Champions League qualification spots. As a measure of just how poorly the former Liverpool boss has done, think over this statistic. Inter Milan have not lose more than four games in a season for four seasons. Yet after just 15 league games in charge the club has already reached that number.

What odds that Mr. Benitez is looking for a new job before too long.
