Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is preparing a double Premier League raid as he seeks to make the signings he feels he needs in order to save his job. The Anfield boss will be given the financial backing or new owners NESV to make significant offers for Tottenham pair Peter Crouch and Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips, players the Merseyside outfit believe they can lure to the club in January.

With Liverpool struggling for goals and seemingly not creating enough chances in the first place, a move for new attacking options is crucial to the club’s hopes of pushing their way up the table and Hodgson will feel he is living on borrowed time and knows that his future at the club will depend very much on how his new signings can help dictate the direction the club goes in, a point that is further advanced by the repeated references the manager has made to the back of quality he has inherited in his squad.

Peter Crouch has been poor this season and Harry Redknapp has made repeated reference to his strike force not being as effective as he would have liked. The England international forward has netted just one goal in 11 Premier League starts and may well be interested in a move back to his former club just as long as he gets some guarantees of regular first team football. Tottenham may well consider offers of around £10-12m for the 29 year old, a fee that the Spurs boss would then eagerly re-invest in the January transfer window.

Shaun Wright-Phillips is in danger of stagnating at Eastlands having managed just two Premier League starts all season. Some sources state that he could be allowed to leave for as little as £5m, which would surely be seen as a bargain buy. The speedy winger will be keen to prove any doubters wrong and would probably be interested in a move to Liverpool.

The upside, for want of a better phrase, of having started the season so poorly is that Man City may not have an issue with selling the former Chelsea winger to the club as they may not see them as direct competition.

Whilst both players are nearing 30 they have bags of top level experience and the keenness to reinvigorate their careers and would not cost large sums of money in the process and whilst the club’s owners are looking to bring in players for tomorrow, Hodgson is also looking for players for today to help resolve the immediate issues that plague the side sitting in ninth spot, nine points from the top four and just five from the relegation zone.
