Manchester City are reportedly planning a January move for AC Milan star Ronaldinho. The 30 year old is thought to be surplus to requirements at the San Siro and Roberto Mancini is keen on the extra creative boost he can give to his Eastlands side as they enter the second half of the season where they feel that the very least they must achieve is a place in the coveted top four.
Ronaldinho has been forced to sit on the AC bench for the past nine consecutive Serie A games and the probable arrival of Sampdoria star Antonio Cassano will only serve to make it even harder for the former two time World Player of the Year to get a look in.
New AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri appears to be managing just fine without Ronaldinho, guiding the side to the top of the domestic table and into the knock out stages of the Champions League and with the Brazilian international’s contract set to run out in the summer a move for the supremely talented playmaker would not cost the earth.
Clearly the player’s wages would be astronomical but clearly funding is not an issue for Man City and the capture of such a star turn would help boost the club’s standing on the world stage and Ronaldinho’s experience could be a very useful tool to help the club achieve success in what is undoubtedly a crucial season.
Ronaldinho has always spoke of his desire to play in the Premier League at some point in his career and this could well be the best time to fulfil that wish and Man City may be the only club with the financial clout who is willing to take what some may consider a calculated risk on a player who may not be at the peak of his powers.
That said, it is worth noting that last season the Porto Alegre born genius netted an impressive 15 goals and assisted another 17 and appears to still have the hunger to succeed at the highest level.
