Manchester United are planning a summer swoop for Wolfsburg goal machine Edin Dzeko and hope to beat rivals Man City to the signing of the hotshot striker. The 24 year old appears likely to leave and has expressed his desire to move to the Premier League where there will be no shortage of interested parties. Sir Alex Ferguson’s pursuit may be aided by the fact that his former Old Trafford assistant Steven McClaren is the current boss at the Bundesliga club.

McClaren appears to be fighting a losing battle to keep the powerful striker at the club and may feel more amenable to accepting an offer from his former club, just as long as the bid meets the reported £35m valuation placed on Dzeko’s shoulders, a fee that would break the club’s current transfer record purchase.

There have been some reports stating that the Bosnian international had sent a letter to a Man City executive some time ago thanking them for their interest in his services but such talk, if true, would only spur Ferguson into action as he is known to be an admirer of the Wolfsburg man who impressed the Scot when he scored in both the Champions League encounters the two sides took part in last season.

Dzeko would surely be very interested in a move to Man United and Sir Alex Ferguson has been looking to bring in younger talents to help build the club’s next generation of talent and reports that the club may well offload Dimitar Berbatov in the summer would also suggest that the club could well be in the market for another striking option.

The Wolfsburg striker has netted 75 goals in 104 appearances over the past two and a half seasons and is seemingly very capable of making the move from the mid table German outfit to the upper echelons of the Premier League.
