Barcelona are considering a £10million move for Arsenal midfielder Denilson after conceding Cesc Fabregas’ price tag could once again spiral beyond their means.
The Catalans, armed with £140m sponsorship from Qatar, will make another attempt to prise Fabregas from the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season.
But the Spanish champions’ sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has been compiling a list of more affordable targets, with Denilson a surprise name at the forefront of his thinking – according to Barcelona-based newspaper Sport.
It is well known that Barca have long been tracking the Brazilian and they believe he could be up for grabs because of Jack Wilshere’s emergence with the Gunners.
Denilson is seen as much more than just a holding midfielder, with Zubizarreta telling colleagues that the 22-year-old never seems to give the ball away.
After Friday’s Champions League draw, Denilson addressed interest from Wolfsburg, which simultaneously put Barca on alert.
He said: ‘I have a lot of feeling for Arsenal and I’ve been here since 2006. The thought of breathing new air – as I’m still very young – can’t be ruled out, but nothing is concrete.’ (Daily Mail)
It has been well documented that Barcelona will try their hardest to get former midfielder Cesc Fabregas back to the Nou Camp, but this source believes that Pep Guardiola is now chasing another Arsenal star, and perhaps Brazilian Denilson may well be tempted by the offer of a move to join the Catalan giants.
Arsene Wenger has not picked the 22 year old very often of late and thus far this season the battling midfielder has started just three Premier League games and seems to be quite far down the pecking order and has been strongly linked with an Emirates exit with the likes of Wolfsburg supposedly also interested in the former Sao Paulo youngster.
There are a number of young fringe players that Wenger has to consider as potential exit bound individuals rather than keeping unhappy players on the club’s books. The likes of Carlos Vela, Nicklas Bendtner, Armand Traore and Vito Mannone may all believe there chance of regular first team football at the north London club has been and gone.
