LIVERPOOL will allow Milan Jovanovic to leave in the New Year – with Germany the likely destination for the Serbia international.

Jovanovic only arrived at Liverpool in the summer on a free transfer from Belgian side Standard Liege having agreed a deal with former Anfield manager Rafael Benitez earlier in the year.

But the 29-year-old has grown frustrated at his lack of top-flight opportunities under Hodgson, and last month indicated he would review his situation in January.

While a regular in the Europa League campaign, the Serb forward and has made only four Premier League starts, the last of which came at Birmingham City in September.

And it appears likely Jovanovic, who has scored just twice this season, will depart when the transfer window reopens next month, with Liverpool willing to entertain offers in the region of £3million.

The news will alert a number of clubs including Bundesliga duo Cologne and Hamburg, who are both known admirers of the player. (Liverpool Daily Post)

It was a summer signing that didn’t appear to make a great deal of sense and so it has proven. Milan Jovanovic may well have shown he can perform well in the Belgian league but has not exactly blown the Premier League away but to be fair to the 29 year old Serbian, he hasn’t had a great deal of a chance to prove himself.

Roy Hodgson has tried to play the former Standard Liege man out wide whereas some may feel he would be of more use in a standard target man role, perhaps alongside Fernando Torres but it seems that Jovanovic will soon be on his way.

There is some talk of a potential move back to Liege but he may well be more interested in interest coming from the Bundesliga where he will hope to gain a move that will maintain his reported £50k a week salary. For the record the powerfully built attacker has not started a Premier League for over three months.
