West Ham boss Avram Grant is plotting a move for FC Twente’s highly rated striker Bryan Ruiz as the Hammers look to beef up their attacking options. The Upton Park side have struggled in front of goal thus far this season and the Israeli manager hopes that the Costa Rican international is interested in swapping the Eredivisie for a relegation scrap.

Since Steve McClaren left last year’s Dutch champions, FC Twente have battled manfully to keep up with league leaders PSV Eindhoven but crashed out of the Champions League at the first hurdle. Adaptable attacker Ruiz has been a big hit in Holland since he arrived from Gent in the summer of 2009 and he hit 25 goals last term to help the club to their first title.

West Ham co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan have stated they will back Grant in the January transfer window and a move for Ruiz would set the east London club back around £8m but may well be a very astute move that could help give the club a fighting chance of steering clear of the dreaded drop.

A host of other clubs are also interested in Ruiz with the likes of Wolfsburg, Everton and Sevilla all said to be interested in acquiring his services as a move away from the Eredivisie seems a distinct possibility.
