Arsenal are leading the race for Ipswich wonder boy Connor Wickham.
The 17-year-old striker is already a regular first team player at Portman Road and a part of the England Under-21 squad.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has received glowing reports about Wickham who is valued at around £10 million.
A whole cluster of Premier League clubs have made Wickham a target but Arsenal remain the favourites to sign him at the end of the season.
A move in the transfer window next month is unlikely – but it seems he will start next season at The Emirates.
Indeed, Wenger may well ask for first option to sign Wickham in the next four weeks to keep his club ahead of the pack of interested clubs.
And Wickham may feel he will thrive at Arsenal.
They have a record of grooming young talent and giving promisjng players their chance in the first team and that could be a decisive factor should Ipswich decide to cash in on their prize asset.
One player leaving Arsenal next month could be Mexican Carlos Vela.
He wants regular first team football and finds himself behind the likes of Marouane Chamkh, Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner in the pecking order.
Spanish cub Espanyol are keen and the asking price of 7.5 million is in their financial range. Villareal and Valencia are also monitoring the situation. (Sunday Mirror)
It appears that this source feels that Connor Wickham’s move to the Emirates is pretty much a done deal and it does appear from some of Ipswich Town boss Roy Keane’s comments that the young English striker is on his way to the Premier League in the summer and clearly a move to Arsenal will greatly appeal to the the teenager.
Obviously Arsene Wenger is the type of manager to trust to youth and therefore he has won the race to some of the top young talent coming through the Championship, as evidenced by successful chases for Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey.
Carlos Vela has found it hard to get a regular run in the first team and the Mexican has really only shown glimpses of his ability when used coming off the bench in cameo roles and it may be best for club and player if the young talent makes a move to La Liga where he may get more of a chance of fulfilling his undoubted talent.
