Lazio have reached an agreement to sign Manchester City’s Roque Santa Cruz, according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
The striker has been marginalised at the British club since Roberto Mancini took over from Mark Hughes, and has spent most of his time warming the bench for City.
Reports in Corriere now suggest his nightmare at Eastlands may be close to an end, as Lazio have agreed a fee to take the Paraguayan international to Rome.
The newspaper says the Serie A team must pay an initial loan fee of €300,000 (£256,000), with a possibility of signing him on a permanent deal for €3 million (£2.5 million) in June. (Goal.com)
Now either Paraguayan international Roque Santa Cruz has become a stunningly poor player during his 18 months at Eastlands or the mega rich club spent far too much on the former Blackburn Rovers man in the first place? To be fair it’s probably a bit of both.
29 year Santa Cruz has never had a chance to prove himself at Man City and he has suffered because of his price tag, something the strong forward can do little about. The Mark Hughes signing has managed just six Premier League starts since his big money move and has netted three goals in the process so it’s not like he hasn’t been effective.
If indeed this deal does go through then Lazio will have gotten themselves something of a bargain as they look to maintain their title challenge at the top of Serie A where they find themselves in an impressive third spot just three points behind AC Milan.
