Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has warned he only wants to do permanent deals for want-away duo Robbie Keane and David Bentley.
West Ham want Keane on loan and Birmingham head a list of clubs who want to take Bentley until the end of the season.
But Redknapp says Spurs want to sell the pair to raise cash for new signings in January. Tottenham are looking to strengthen in attack and in midfield – with David Beckham hoping to complete a loan move.
However, Bentley – wanted by Birmingham, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Fulham – and West Ham and Villa target Keane may have to wait until a big offer comes in.
Redknapp said: “Bentley did well at the end of last season. But he obviously wants to go. He’s not happy because he’s not playing and I understand that. Robbie is the same. He’s too good not to play. But if we want to let people go we need to sell them.”
Tottenham may also let Niko Kranjcar go if anyone matches their £9million valuation. They want £5m for Keane and the majority of their £15m outlay on Bentley back. (Daily Mirror)
Harry Redknapp is obviously known as something of a wheeler dealer and is perhaps the manager most likely to be looking for a bargain in the January transfer window but it appears he needs to sell before he can buy and perhaps Daniel Levy has stressed the need to offload some of Tottenham’s hefty squad before he can reinvest and with that in mind the White Hart Lane boss hopes to cash in on these three.
Robbie Keane is clearly a player with a great deal of Premier League experience and is one of the most consistent strikers in the English top tier and the likes of Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Celtic are all reportedly interested in the signing the 30 year old.
David Bentley may be harder to cash in on as he has spent the majority of 18 months warming the bench and if Redknapp really thinks he can get £10m for the 26 year old former Blackburn Rovers and Arsenal midfielder then he may well be in for a shock.
Niko Kranjcar is a player with undoubted talent who may well opt to leave England all together with clubs in Italy and Spain showing interest in snapping up the Croatian flair player. Harry is looking to bring in another attacking option and another centre back to help strengthen his squad as they fight on multiple fronts.
