Real Madrid are ready to sign a striker in January as Gonzalo Higuain looks unlikely to return to action this season.
The Argentine star had successful keyhole surgery on a slipped disc in his back earlier this week.
The injury has sidelined him since November and the latest procedure almost certainly means he will not play for Real again this term.
Real have previously said they were not keen to sign a striker, but now coach Jose Mourinholooks to be pushing for reinforcements.
“I have only Benzema and a club like Arsenal, you have five strikers,” said Mourinho.
Now reports suggest that Real have drawn up a short-list of four strikers as potential signings this month.
They are Miroslav Klose, Nelson Valdez, Emmanuel Adebayor and Adam Szalai. (Sky Sports)
So let’s take a closer look at the four strikers mentioned by this source and whether they are realistic and intelligent targets for the Bernabeu giants to consider.
Clearly a quality player with a great deal of experience, the Bayern Munich man would probably be allowed to leave on the cheap and has enough in the tank to put in a good stint for the second half of the season and could well be a useful back up to have beyond that time frame. Anyone who believes the German is past it
would do well to realise that whilst his chances at the Allianz Arena are infrequent he did net ten goals for his country in 2010 and had a great World Cup.
The 27 year old Paraguayan has had a good season for Hercules but given that he only signed for the recently promoted La Liga side, it seems unlikely they would allow him to leave, and if they did they would want a big fee before they even considered allowing him to leave the Alicante based side.
The Man City man will cost a bucket load in wages and Roberto Mancini will probably demand some sort of loan fee on top. That said, the Togo international is a proven goalscorer who could well do a good job at Real Madrid and may prove himself worthy of a permanent deal when any loan move is complete. One thing to take into account, Mourinho and Adebayor are both very strong personalities who’s egos may collide with explosive results.
Probably the least well known of the quartet, Adam Szalai is a former Real Madrid reserve team player who was offloaded to Mainz. The big Hungarian has had a decent season in the Bundesliga but there would still be doubt that he could make the grade at the La Liga giants.
