Arsenal are reportedly considering an ambitious bid to sign Barcelona attacker Pedro Rodriguez. Arsene Wenger is apparently seriously considering allowing Andrei Arshavin to move to Juventus, an exit that the Russian’s own agent has stated was a distinct possibility and sees the 23 year old Spanish international as an ideal replacement for the Gunners man.
Clearly it is highly unlikely that Pep Guardiola will listen to offers for a player who has worked through the Catalan club’s youth system and is a now a first team regular who has been a hugely important figure in the Nou Camp side’s success of late.
Tenerife born Pedro plays out wide for Barcelona but is also known to ply his trade as an out and out striker and has netted an impressive 38 goals in the last season and a half.
In an intriguing twist to the relationship between Arsenal and Barcelona, the Premier League club are set to turn the tables by approaching the La Liga champions about one of their players.
Pedro Rodriguez has been a revelation since breaking into the Barcelona first team last season and is performances have grown more and more impressive. The 23-year-old is now an automatic choice at Camp Nou and he has repaid manager Pep Guardiola’s faith by bagging 9 goals from a wide position already this season.
Arsenal see him as the perfect replacement for Andrei Arshavin who is being linked with a move to Juventus at the end of the season. It would be curious reverse should the Gunners pester their Catalan counterparts over one of their players following Barcelona’s unseemly pursuit of Cesc Fabregas last summer.
Of course, it does open up the possibility of a swap deal though that is something that Arsene Wenger is sure to resist but he hopes that his club can play on the concern over debt levels at the Spanish club by submitting a £20m bid for Pedro. (Sportingo)
