Liverpool strike target Mirko Vucinic will be allowed to leave Roma, according to reports in Italy.
The Montenegro international was speculatively linked with a move to Anfield in the closing stages of the last transfer window, with former Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson thought to be keen on the player.
Kenny Dalglish’s appointment as manager on Merseyside is not thought to have ended the interest of Liverpool in the player, although the club will have to wait until the summer if they wish to sign the €20 million rated player.
Il Corriere dello Sport claims that the Serie ‘A’ outfit are in need of cash, and will consider selling the player given the ‘firm’ interest from the Reds.
Goal.com goes on to claim that Roma ‘would sell Vucinic to Liverpool’, if the financial constraints continue to be an issue at the Stadio Olimpico.
The striker began his career at Sutjeska Nikši? before joining Lecce in 2000, a club where he would become a cult hero during his six years.
Roma would sign the 27-year-old for a fee rising to around €4 million in 2006, and the forward has improved year-on-year during his time with i Giallorossi.
Liverpool are searching for an attacking foil for Fernando Torres at Anfield, and while Dalglish is thought to have a shortlist containing a number of players, a striker is believed to be the priority.
New owners NESV have pledged money to spend for the Barclays Premier League outfit, and so the valuation is unlikely to prove a major issue for Liverpool.
Immediate availability could be however, and Vucinic is likely to be a first option should the club fail to land a striker in the remaining weeks of the window. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
So this source believes that Roma are inviting offers from Liverpool for talented Montenegrin international Mirko Vucinic and there is no doubting the 27 year old’s ability so perhaps a move could indeed occur this month. The big physical striker could work well as a foil for Fernando Torres and would be well worth making a bid for.
The former Lecce man is now in his fifth season at the Stadio Olimpico and Vucinic has shown progress year on year and last term his 19 goals helped Claudio Ranieri’s side to within 90 minutes of a Serie A title but now it appears the 6ft 3in front man is looking for a new challenge.
Roma’s €20 (£16.8m) is a fair one and Dalglish and Director of Football Damien Comolli would do well to make a move sooner rather than later as there are bound to be many prospective suitors eager to nab Vucinic.
