Real Madrid are ready to line up a sensational swoop for Manchester City captain Carlo Tevez after their move for Ruud van Nistelrooy was blocked.
Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is desperate to recruit a new frontman with Gonzalo Higuain sidelined for four months and has set his sights on bringing in fellow Argentine striker Tevez as a ready-made replacement to boost their charge for silverware, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
Mourinho watched his side fall further behind in La Liga on Sunday night after his side were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw with Almeria while league leaders Barcelona surged to a 4-1 win over Malaga.
Despite Real’s reluctance to spend major sums during the January transfer window, the former Chelsea boss has demanded the club sanction the signing of a new striker or risk another trophy-barren season.
Van Nistelrooy, who left the Bernabeu for the Bundesliga last year, has been identified as a cheap option to satisfy Mourinho’s pleas.
The ex-Manchester United star and Holland international admitted he would find a return to Spain too difficult to resist but Hamburg warned Madrid the player will not be leaving to rejoin them.
No go: Hamburg have blocked Ruud van Nistelrooy’s return to the Bernabeu
‘He will see out the end of his contract, the decision is final,’ said Hamburg director of sport Bastian Reinhardt. ‘We will not let him leave.’
A move for Tevez would be far more expensive for Madrid, however, with Manchester City unlikely to let the 26-year-old leave for anything less than £40million – a price that could force the Spanish giants out of the reckoning. (Daily Mail)
By all accounts Jose Mourinho is readying a move for Argentine international Carlos Tevez but will offer up to £33m for the 26 year old but it seems that regardless of the fee that is offered, as clearly Man City do not need the money, Roberto Mancini is not about to sell his most important player, especially half way through such a great season.
What may be an issue is if the former West Ham and Man United man pushes for an exit and then Manchester City may have a problem on their hands. However that too may not be enough to see the Bernabeu nab the prolific striker because Tevez already played the “I want to leave” card and he was firmly rebuked albeit he apparently got a nice hefty pay rise as a result and also appeared to have forced the club into buying Edin Dzeko to play as his strike partner.
Real Madrid do desperately need to get hold of another striker because first choice Gonzalo Higuain is still out injured and Karim Benzema is not proving very effective in goalscoring terms. The likes of Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Emmanuel Adebayor and Miroslav Klose are among other players linked with a move to the La Liga giants this month.
