New Zealand international Ryan Nelson has been given an extended contract to stay at Blackburn until 2013. Nelson, 32, has been at Ewood Park since 2005 when he signed from MLS side DC United.

Nelson said that he was dissapointed over the way the players were left in the dark when Sam Allardyce was sacked, but gives his full backing to new manager Steve Kean, whose deal will expire the same time as Nelson’s.

Nelson captained New Zealand at the Fifa World Cup last year.
