Liverpool are hoping to bring Karim Benzema to Anfield on loan, according to reports on Sunday.
The former Lyon star has struggled since his switch to the Bernabeu in 2009 and his prospects have not improved under Real boss Jose Mourinho.
With Real now trying to bring Ruud van Nistelrooy back to the club, Benzema will be pushed even further down the pecking order and Liverpool are reportedly hoping to take advantage by bringing the Frenchman to the Premier League on loan.

There appears to be a very long list of striker targets being drawn up by the Merseyside club but perhaps this one is the least likely of the lot? Karim Benzema is getting a lot of stick for not scoring regularly now that he has his chance to impress, with Gonzalo Higuain out with a long term injury. However the French international does a lot more than score and it should be noted that he has been on hand to set up colleagues an awful lot in recent months.
In fact just today he put away a crucial winner at home to Mallorca and whilst he may not be a player who Jose Mourinho rates as a first team starter the Real Madrid boss is not likely to loan out his only recognised striker this month as to do so would be suicidal.
Even if the La Liga giants brought in another striker they would still not look to loan out the 22 year old former Lyon man because then they would be right back to square one, I.e. having no back up. Come the summer a move may be on the cards for the Bernabeu man but any potential swoop from Liverpool would be mighty ambitious and almost certain to fail.
Benzema arrived at Real last summer for a fee of £35m and at the time was considered one of the best in his position across the whole of Europe but his rather average season last term seems to have left many making overly critical statements about a player with a great deal of ability and plenty of time on his side.
Last term he managed nine goals from 18 starts which is by no means abysmal but it just so happens that a change of manager, from Manuel Pellegrini to Jose Mourinho, has left Benzema wondering where his future lies. He knows as well as anyone that if Argentine Higuain was fit then he would not be in the first team but now is his chance to prove his worth and in order to do so he will not be considering a loan exit elsewhere.
