Emirates boss Arsene Wenger has long since been linked with moves to bring in an extra centre back and a new first choice keeper and now the Gunners manager believes both can be found at Ibrox in the form of Majdid Bougherra and Allan McGregor. Rangers boss Walter Smith will of course fight off interest in two players who are crucial to his sides chances of overhauling Celtic in the SPL race.
Moroccan international Majdid Bougherra was linked with a move to North London after the World Cup last summer but no Arsenal bid was forthcoming but perhaps now as Wenger frantically searches for defensive cover a bid may be finally be made for the £6m rated 28 year old burly defender who has been a virtual ever present at Rangers this term.
Allan McGregor is well known as a solid keeper and after 12 years at Ibrox perhaps the Scottish international would be tempted by a move down south and Wenger may well still be searching for a solid number one choice as whilst Lukasz Fabiankski have improved immeasurably this season the Polish international may still not be the man for the job in Wenger’s eyes.
The pair would cost a combined fee of around £12m which would be well within Arsenal’s budget but it remains to be seen whether Wenger may opt for alternative moves in the transfer market to help end the club’s five year silverware-less streak.
