Arsenal outcast Carlos Vela is on the verge of joining Valencia after club officials thrashed out a deal in London last week, according to reports in Spain.
The Mexico international is currently Arsene Wenger’s fifth-choice striker and has started only three Premier League games in three seasons at the club.
Wenger seems to have lost patience with Vela and is ready to let him leave the club on loan to get his career back on track.
Vela enjoyed successful loan spells in Spain earlier in his career, at Osasuna and Celta Vigo, and is now on the verge of joining Valencia on a six-month deal.
Arsene Wenger has spoken this week about the hope that Carlos Vela could be sent out on loan, perhaps to a Premier League club, so that the Gunners boss can keep a close eye on a player with unquestioned ability but who appears no nearer to becoming a first team regular than he was two years ago.
The Mexican attacker is much loved by supporters and staff alike but there surely comes a time when a player must think about his career and whether it will be best served by waiting out time on the bench hoping for a chance to impress.
Vela will be 22 in a couple of months and whilst clearly that isn’t old in the grand scheme of things it does mean, especially at the ever youthful Arsenal side, that he would be older than many of his team-mates in the Gunners squad.
Carlos Vela has been handed just three Premier League starts during his time at the club and there appears to be a sense that if he hasn’t impressed Arsene Wenger enough by now then when will he. A move to Valencia, like for Atletico Madrid’s Fran Merida before him, may be a good solid move that would help his long term development.
Spaniard Merida has already had more first team action with Atletico this season alone than he managed during his three years at the Emirates. Some sources speculate that a fee of £6m would suffice to seal a move from North London to Valencia and it’s a move that Carlos Vela may find suits his long term ambitions best.
