ASTON VILLA have asked Tottenham to name their price for Jermaine Jenas.

Big-spending Villa chief Gerard Houllier landed Sunderland striker Darren Bent for a club-record £24million last week.

And SunSport can reveal he now wants England midfielder Jenas, 27, who cost Tottenham £7m from Newcastle 5½ years ago.

Jenas is contracted to Spurs until 2013 and boss Harry Redknapp is in no rush to sell a player who, now he is fit again, has re-established himself as a significant part of the Spurs set-up.

But Steven Pienaar’s arrival at White Hart Lane from Everton has persuaded Villa that Jenas can be bought.

No price has yet been thrashed out but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who drives a notoriously hard bargain, will want at least £10m.

Villa have switched their attentions to Jenas having failed to make inroads in their bid to sign Blackpool’s Charlie Adam, who looks set to join Liverpool.

Aston Villa have just signed Jean Makoun to their midfield, and though Stephen Ireland is set to join Newcastle United shortly, it is unclear where Jermaine Jenas would fit into the Aston Villa midfield.

Villa already have Stewart Downing, Ashley Young, Robert Pires, Marc Albrighton, Fabian Delph, Jean Makoun, Stilyan Petrov, Nigel Reo-Coker and Barry Bannan in their ranks – as well as the aforementioned Ireland.

This raises a number of questions:

Who would Aston Villa fans like to see Jenas play instead of?

Is a Tottenham Hotspur squad player really worth £10m or above?
