Chelsea and Manchester City are ready to make bids for Barcelona wing back Daniel Alves after his manager Pep Guardiola revealed the Brazilian could leave Camp Nou.
Dani Alves’ contract expires in the summer of 2012, and will be free to talk to clubs outside of Spain from this summer – though reports claim that Barcelona could even accept a big enough offer in this transfer window.
“We have talked about it with Dani, I told him how I feel, and I do not want him to stay here while he is unhappy,” said Guardiola.
”He deserves to ask for what he wants, and the club has the right to give it, or not. I want him to be happy here, or anywhere.”
ESPN Soccernet followed up those quotes with the line: “sounds like Barcelona might be looking for a new right-back fairly soon.”
Could they be right?
Chelsea though could soon have right back issues of their own, as they are still to extend the deal of Jose Bosingwa, whose contract expires this summer, but as they possess first option to extend it for another year, perhaps the situation has been exaggerated.
Nevertheless, with reports that Atletico Madrid have turned down a €52m offer from the club for Sergio Aguero and Diego Godin, Chelsea have more spending power than perhaps was believed, and they will be able to compete with the might of Manchester City in the transfer market.
Dani Alves would doubtlessly be a fantastic asset to either Chelsea or Man City, with his ability to patrol the entire right flank down to his quite remarkable fitness.
Will we soon be seeing him playing for an English team in the Premier League?
