Sky Sports understands that Fernando Torres has asked Liverpool to consider selling him to Chelsea after a bid was rejected in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Blues have been admirers of the Spain striker for some time and it has now emerged that they made an audacious attempt to sign him.

The offer, believed to be around £35million, was immediately turned down by the Reds, who insisted Torres ‘is not for sale’.

Reports have claimed that Chelsea will return with an improved offer before Monday’s deadline to further test Liverpool’s resolve.

And Sky Sports’ Spanish expert Guillem Balague understands Torres has asked Liverpool to listen to Chelsea’s bid.

It is thought that Torres would like the opportunity to embark on a new challenge with the reigning Premier League champions after three-and-a-half years at Anfield.

Now this could well amount to the biggest transfer story of this transfer window and Sky Sports appear to believe that Fernando Torres wants to make the move from Anfield to Stamford Bridge. Well respected journalist Guillem Balague has stated that the Spanish international wants Liverpool to consider offers from Chelsea for his services and if indeed this news is accurate then it will be the kind of news that supporters of the Merseyside club will be very unhappy to hear.

Had such a statement come out a few weeks back when Torres and indeed Liverpool as a whole were struggling for form and looking downwards and not up then it would perhaps be more believable whereas now such a report seems hard to fathom.

The 26 year old striker appears to be getting back to his best and looks hungry for the game again so for the former Atletico Madrid man to demand a move is a little hard to swallow. No doubt more on this to come.
