So there you have it. Official news posted on the Liverpool website confirms that the two clubs have agreed a £35m fee to see Andy Carroll make his move from St James’ Park to Anfield. An earlier bid was turned down but this seemed only a pretext to put the ball firmly in the England international’s court. They could then save face by stating that they were merely accepting an offer for a player who had put in a transfer request.
It would appear that any move would mean that Fernando Torres’s move to Chelsea is set to be completed so news of the new signing will be tempered by the knowledge that the club will have lost the services of a world class striker.
More information of the offer is posted on Liverpool’s official website that has seemingly crashed, but just before it did we garnered the following information.
Liverpool FC confirmed this afternoon that Newcastle United had accepted a Club record offer for the transfer of Andy Carroll.
The Club have been given permission by Newcastle to discuss personal terms with the player, who will now travel to Liverpool for a medical. (Official Liverpool website)
