Newcastle United have rejected a £30million bid from Liverpool for Andy Carroll, according to Sky Sports sources.

Liverpool are currently locked in talks over the future of star striker Fernando Torres, who has requested a transfer after Chelsea had an offer rejected for him last week.

Now The Reds, who already have Luis Suarez coming from Ajax, are looking for further striking reinforcements and have seemingly set their sights on Carroll.

Now Sky Sports News understands that Liverpool have lodged a club-record bid, but that has been rejected by the Tyneside club.

With Liverpool reportedly set to accept Chelsea’s bid for Fernando Torres a move for Andy Carroll would appear to have been planned to replace the exit bound Spaniard but that bid has now been turned down by the St James’ Park club.

The young England international is currently sidelined with injury but has notched up 11 Premier League goals already this season and has also been the subject of interest from Tottenham who are also on the look out for new attacking options.
