Carlo Ancelotti is planning a summer swoop for in form Napoli striker Edinson Cavani as the Chelsea boss looks to beat Premier League rivals Manchester City in the race to sign the Uruguayan international. The West London side are looking to bring in young talents to help take the baton from an ageing squad and the Italian manager believes the 23 year old could be just the man to help beef up his front line.
Even though the Stamford Bridge side have brought in Fernando Torres they will still be aware that Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba are very much at the end of their glittering careers and therefore Ancelotti is hoping to get extra transfer funds to bring in Cavani.
Roman Abramovich has displayed his willingness to spend big with the signings of Torres as well as Benfica defender David Luiz and the Russian owner is happy to challenge Manchester City’s financial muscle by entering a bidding war for powerfully built forward.
Edinson Cavani is currently on loan at Napoli from Palermo but the temporary deal also included a stipulation that the Naples side would have first refusal to sign the striker for a fee in the region of £14m and now Chelsea are apparently ready to pay far more to sign the top scorer in Serie A.
