Sir Alex Ferguson has placed three British talents on a summer wish-list as the Old Trafford boss looks to the future with moves for Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell and Sunderland pair Jordan Henderson and Craig Gordon. The Manchester United boss has been promised funds to improve his ageing squad and whilst the Scot didn’t feel the need to make moves in January he will be looking to freshen things up when the season comes to an end.

With Edwin van der Sar announcing his retirement at the end of the season Ferguson has been looking around Europe for an adequate replacement and has earmarked a move for former Hearts custodian Gordon who at 28 has enough experience about him to suggest that he may be a safe pair of hands to stick behind a United back four.

Ferguson is known to be an admirer of another Black Cat in Jordan Henderson and even Stadium of Light boss Steve Bruce has admitted his concern that offers from his former club may be too hard for the England international to ignore. The 20 year old midfielder has been in fine form over the past 18 months and his mature displays have caught attention of many Premier League sides and led to an England call up in November.

Whilst Jack Rodwell is tied to a long term contract at Goodison Park Man United may feel that they can lure the battling midfielder to the club, not least as apparent financial problems at Everton may make it hard for the Merseyside turn down any significant moves for the young Toffees talent.
