QPR manager Neil Warnock has claimed Adel Taarabt blew his chance of a potential big-money move to Manchester United after showing his petulant side during a recent match against Hull City.
Taarabt has claimed United have been keeping tabs on him for a while and Warnock confirmed scouts from the Premier League club came to watch the Moroccan play at the weekend.
However, the 21-year-old didn’t have his finest game for the Championship leaders and was seen arguing with team-mates before asking to be substituted during the first half.
Commenting on Taarabt’s performance, Warnock said: ‘He let himself down on Saturday.
‘United came to watch him and he had a strop. I said on the bus “that’s done that, hasn’t it?”
‘He can forget about joining United. I’m delighted because it means we’ve no chance of losing him now.’
QPR are currently five points clear at the top of the Championship after a 2-0 victory over Portsmouth on Tuesday, with Taarabt once again on the score-sheet, taking his tally for the season to 14.
Adel Taarabt is undoubtedly having an excellent season for Queens Park Rangers, and could well be the best player of the nPower Championship season so far.
However, he certainly seems to have an inflated opinion of his own ability, which would not sit so well Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, where the emphasis is on the team rather than the individual.
Taarabt’s tendency to try to do things on his own and continued frustration at the standard of his side might be alleviated with better team-mates alongside him, but it is an admirable quality to make the best of what you have.
It is a lesson that Adel Taarabt has yet to learn.
