ALAN Pardew could already be eyeing up a Brazilian international striker to bring to Newcastle at the end of the season to replace Andy Carroll.

Rumours at St James’s Park suggest FC Porto forward Hulk is on the Magpies’ radar and the club will keep a close eye on him for the rest of the season.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has stated vehemently that he will have access to all the money made from the sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool and it may take a rather large chunk of that cash to land this target. The Brazilian international has a big price tag as his Porto club rate him very highly indeed and looking at his strike rate this season you can well see why.

The former J League star has netted an incredible 19 goals in 17 league games to help his side to a seemingly unassailable eleven point lead at the top of the pile and there are some reports suggesting that the strongly built striker is looking to move to one of the big European leagues and his agent has stated that Hulk, real name Givanildo Vieira de Souza, would consider offers from the Premier League where his hustle and bustle technique may well be best suited.

It would take a bid of at least £25m to bring Hulk to St James’ Park but in many ways he could be an ideal replacement for Andy Carroll. Whilst it is true that Brazilian imports to the English top tier tend to struggle there are of course exceptions to the rule and the Porto man may well be just such an anomaly. Any move to sign the 24 year old would have to smash the club’s record transfer purchase in order to have any chance of succeeding.

It will be interesting to see if Mike Ashley does indeed allow Pardew to re-invest the funds from the Carroll sale and many Toon Army supporters may doubt that the club’s owner will do so but that won’t stop Pardew making plans to reinvigorate their front line, something he probably would have liked to have acted upon last month but was simply not left with enough time to do so due to the late sale of their prized asset to Liverpool.

The powerful forward has been linked to a number of clubs over the past 12 months following a series of impressive performances for the Portuguese club.

Hulk, real name Givanildo Vieira de Souza, has been in scintillating form this season having scored 16 goals in his first 16 games in addition to being named the Portuguese Championship’s player of the month for September and October.

The striker received his first international call-up to the Brazil squad to play England in 2009 before eventually making his full debut for his country against Oman in November.
