Manchester United have been put on red alert after Udinese star Alexis Sanchez revealed he will leave the Italian club at the end of the season.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been tracking the progress of the Chilean winger who has been outstanding in Serie A this season.

Sanchez, 22, has also been attracting the interest of Inter Milan, Manchester City and Barcelona.

But reports in Italy suggest that Manchester United are the strong favourites to clinch his signature and his agent Fernando Felicevich admits a move could be finalised at the end of the season.

Felicevich said: “Various clubs have shown an interest and he will leave Udinese at the end of the season.

“Despite everything that has been said and written, neither I nor the club have received offers for Sanchez [in January]. But I can confirm he will change clubs in June.”

Despite a shaky start, Alexis Sanchez has recently been in brilliant form for Udinese, and it is no wonder the top clubs in Europe are now chasing his signature.

With his ability to play on either flank – as well as a newfound position of just behind the strikers creating chances – Sanchez would be a fantastic asset for most teams.

If Manchester United are to be his destination, one would imagine he would play on the left flank if Nani continues on the right, but if Antonio Valencia comes back as good as he was prior to his injury, perhaps Nani would go to the left and Sanchez would play from central attacking midfield.

At 22, he is still young enough to improve under Sir Alex Ferguson’s tutelage, but will not do so if Chelsea are able to swoop in.

According to the Independent, Carlo Ancelotti is also considering a move for the player in the summer, and Sanchez could well elect to become part of the exciting rebuilding project taking place at Stamford Bridge.
