Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is keeping a close eye on Ajax striker Mounir El Hamdaoui with a view to making a summer move for the Moroccan international as the St James’ Park side looks to find a suitable replacement for Andy Carroll.

The 26 year old former Tottenham man has had a very productive first season at the Amsterdam Arena, netting 15 goals in all competitions thus far and is now very much a key component of Frank de Boer’s Ajax side now that Luis Suarez has left the club.

El Hamdaoui has enjoyed something of a frosty relationship with new boss de Boer and has been linked with a move away from the club ever since Martin Jol left his post as Ajax boss back in December, with the likes of Bordeaux said to be keen on the prolific marksman.

Now the Magpies are considering a move for the Rotterdam born front man who has a great scoring record in the Dutch Eredivisie but proved unable to break the Premier League when at Tottenham but did do well whilst on loan at Derby County during his spell in England.

Ajax are also still very much suffering with financial difficulties even after the sale of Suarez to Liverpool and may still feel the pressure to offload some of their stars to balance their books and Mounir El Hamdaoui may well be tempted by giving the Premier League another shot.
