Manchester United are considering a move for Newcastle United battler Cheik Tiote. The Ivory Coast midfielder has been in impressive form for the Magpies since his move to St James’ Park in the summer and his stunning leveller, and all round performance, against Arsenal has left Sir Alex Ferguson planning a bid to bring the midfield battler to Old Trafford.
24 year old Tiote has been a driving force in the Newastle midfield and his displays as a midfield enforcer have not gone unnoticed and as well as interest from Man United, Chelsea are also said to be keen on the former FC Twente man and some reports suggest that Carlo Ancelotti made an enquiry about the player last month.
Manchester United are keen to bring in more defensive midfield options, not least because long term injury concern Owen Hargreaves appears no nearer to full fitness, and Ferguson is willing to offer more than four times the bargain £3.5m that Newcastle paid for Tiote in August.
After three years failing to make an impact at Anderlecht, Tiote left Belgium for Holland and made a name for himself as part of Steve McClaren’s Eredivisie winning FC Twente side before his move to Newcastle and the tireless battler has adjusted to life in the English top tier with incredible ease, leading to the interest from the likes of Manchester United, which may be hard for the Ivorian to ignore.
