Liverpool’s Director of Football Damien Comolli has set his sights on landing Real Madrid youngster Sergio Canales. The Spanish Under 21 international arrived at the Bernabeu in the summer after a deal sealed to sign the attacking midfielder was sealed in last February some months before Jose Mourinho took over at the La Liga giants.
The former Racing Santander starlet is considered one of the hottest prospects in Spanish football but is barely part of Mourinho’s first team plans and has therefore strongly linked with a move away from the club with a host of clubs interested in signing the 19 year old. Interest from Juventus and Valencia has also been reported.
Comolli and Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish are keen on bringing in top youngsters from Europe to help build a side for the future alongside the players coming through the club’s academy system.
Canales has stated his desire to fight his way into the Real Madrid side but as yet is only being used in cameo roles from the bench when games are already done and dusted and the talented youngster may feel it is in his best interest to consider a move the best way to ignite his career.
