Newcastle United will attempt to sign Tottenham’s want-away striker Roman Pavlyuchenko this summer after the he made it abundantly clear he is not happy at White Hart Lane. The former Spartak Moscow man has spent vast chunks of his time at the North London club warming the bench and will almost certainly put in a transfer request when the season comes to an end and Alan Pardew will then look to bring the 29 year old to St James’ Park.
Pardew has been left somewhat in the lurch by the eleventh hour departure of Andy Carroll to Liverpool and now the Magpies must make do with a threadbare strike force for the rest of the season but will look to resolve the issue just as soon as the transfer window re-opens.
Pavlyuchenko has grown ever more frustrated with his lack of first team opportunities at Tottenham and even Harry Redknapp has spoken out about his understanding of the big striker’s disappointment as not being given regular football.
For his part the Russian international has a decent strike rate when called upon, managing 33 goals from 54 starts and countless sub appearances since his £13.8m move to the club back in August 2008. Redknapp will reportedly accept offers in the region of £8m in the summer, a fee that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley should be able to stretch to given the £35m that came in from Liverpool for Carroll.
