Liverpool are ready to further bolster their attacking options by landing Napoli hitman Ezequiel Lavezzi in the summer.

Director of sporting strategy Damien Comolli has identified Lavezzi as the next striker on the club’s wish list.

The Argentina international has formed a lethal partnership with Edinson Cavani this season with the pair hitting 23 goals in 24 games between them in Serie A.

But, according to reports in Italy, Liverpool are now lining up a big-money bid for the 25-year-old who is valued at around £20m by Napoli.

Sorry Liverpool fans but this deal does not seem likely.

Having just spent over £70million on acquiring Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez it seems ludicrous to spend another £20million on more forwards.

Liverpool just do not have the cash to throw away so wildly (only Manchester City and possibly Chelsea do).

It is not the style of Damien Comolli either. He has similar philosophy to Arsene Wenger in wanting to develop youth players.

Liverpool have Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez, David N’Gog and Dirk Kuyt as strikers. Kenny Dalglish will be happy with that attack but if they do go into the market it will be for a youngster with potential.

Liverpool fans would probably be happier spending money to strengthen different areas of the pitch.

Of course this deal could happen, but do not hold your breath.
