Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle wants to keep Johan Elmander but admits the decision is out of his hands.

Bolton’s record £10million signing could leave for nothing at the end of the season as his contract is up.

The Swedish striker has enjoyed his best season so far for the Trotters, scoring 10 goals, after enduring indifferent form since his 2009 move from Toulose.

Contract talks between the player and the club have stalled but Coyle is desperate to keep the hit-man.

“Johan is a terrific player and an outstanding man. I would love to keep Johan at the football club but, ultimately, Johan will decide,” Coyle said.

“He might think there’s something out there that he fancies for himself and that’s his decision.”

Earlier this week Elmander admitted he was happy at Bolton but felt under no pressure to sign a new contract with Bolton.

“I don’t feel any obligation towards Bolton,” Elmander told The Sun.

“They have had the chance to do something about a new deal. We’ve had dialogue but not right now.”
