West Bromwich Albion have announced the appointment of Roy Hodgson as the club’s new Head Coach on a one-and-a-half year deal.

The 63-year-old former Inter Milan, Switzerland, Fulham and Liverpool boss has this morning committed himself to the Hawthorns until June 2012.

Hodgson was voted Manager of the Year by the League Managers’ Association last season after guiding Fulham to the Europa League final.

He then took over from Rafael Benitez at Liverpool at the start of the season, but struggled with results as his efforts were undermined by the take-over of the club and was sacked last month.

And the Baggies have moved quickly to secure the services of the experienced tactician following their decision to part company with Roberto Di Matteo at the weekend, following a 3-0 loss to Manchester City that left the club only out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Hodgson will begin his role after the weekend leaving Michael Appleton, who was appointed caretaker manager, will remain in charge for the West Ham game.
