Tottenham will this summer look to lure former White Hart Lane midfielder Michael Carrick into leaving Manchester United for a move to North London. The England international has had an up and down season and Harry Redknapp is hopeful he can persuade his former West Ham charge to leave Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson may not stand in the way of such a departure, just as long as he gets the fee he believes adequate for the vastly experienced 29 year old. Carrick has started 14 Premier League games this season and sat out a big portion of last term’s matches on the bench and may well be allowed to leave as the Man United boss looks to freshen up his squad and rebuilds for the future.

Redknapp has stated his desire to strengthen the centre of his midfield and to that end attempted to land Charlie Adam with an eleventh hour offer for the Blackpool man failing to be completed on time. A move for Carrick would be a wise one as the Spurs boss looks to add players to his squad who are used to challenging for top honours as well as competing in Europe.

Michael Carrick spent two seasons at Tottenham before leaving for Man United in June 2006 for a fee of £14m and it is believed that a fee of around £10m would be sufficient to bring the Wallsend born midfielder back to N17.

Harry Redknapp is rumoured to be preparing to sell a number of his extensive squad this summer with the likes of Darren Bentley, Jermaine Jenas and Robbie Keane likely to leave, likewise Sir Alex Ferguson could well offload some of the less used members of his squad with Michael Owen not likely to earn a new deal and the likes of Wes Brown, Darron Gibson, Tomasz Kuszczak and Anderson linked with moves away from the Premier League table toppers.
