Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones has signed a new one-year contract extension to stay with the Lancashire club.
The academy product, who is currently out with a long-term knee injury, has been highly sought after but will now stay at Blackburn until 2016.
Arsenal and Chelsea were said to be monitoring the progress of the defender, who can also play in midfield, but Steve Kean hopes the new deal would put to bed the rumours.
“This is great news, especially on the back of so many other key players committing themselves to the club,” Kean told the club’s official website.
“Phil has made incredible progress over the past year or so and his form, prior to his unfortunate injury setback, attracted a lot of attention.
“It speaks volumes that he is happy to stay here for the long term and we are all absolutely delighted.”
