Five Bolton Wanderers Deadweights Who Need to Be Offloaded This Summer

Owen Coyle has performed wonders at Bolton Wanderers this season with one of the smallest squads in the Premier League.

He has made the Reebok Stadium dream of European football again and by playing attractive football too.

But here at COS we have decided to help the Scottish manager and weed out the dead wood at the club.

Matthew Taylor

He has scored some wonderful goals but midfielders need more than that. There are stronger players at the club in Stuart Holden, Lee Chung-Yong and Fabrice Muamba. But Coyle likes him, meaning he will drop a better player for Taylor.

Paul Robinson

The fattest man in the Premier League? He can’t keep up with the pace of the top flight and the only way he can make an impact is by being a thug. Bolton are trying to play prettier football and he goes completely against this. Calling him a Championship player is an insult to Championship players.

Johan Elmander

Confidence is key in the Premier League and Elmander has struggled with his. When a top goalscorer is partnered with Kevin Davies (eg. Daniel Sturridge) look how many goals can be scored. His contract is up in the summer and despite having his best season so far, get rid.

Robbie Blake

Did Owen Coyle truly only sign Blake because he felt sorry for him? He is 34 going on 50 but has perfected the art of warming the bench. Would Trotters’ fans rather see an up-and-coming youngster take his place and gain experience of first-team football?

Jlloyd Samuel

He has not played all season and if he cannot displace Paul Robinson, he never will. With the arrival of David Wheater from Middlesbrough his chances look even more remote. Just a distinctly average player – and one Bolton can do without.
