AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has been charged by a Uefa disciplinary hearing for ‘gross unsporting conduct’ following his head-butt on Tottenham assistant manager Joe Jordan

The incident occurred after Tottenham had secured a famous 1-0 Champions league victory over the Italian giants in the San Siro.

Uefa’s control and disciplinary body will discuss the matter on Monday and Gattuso could be set for a lengthy European ban following his reaction.

Uefa’s disciplinary code calls for a ban of at least one European match for ‘unsporting conduct’, but at least three for ‘assaulting players or others present at the match.’

A frustrating night for the combative midfielder was marred by a number of incidents.

During the game he grabbed Jordan by the throat, aggressively confronted goal scorer Peter Crouch and was booked, meaning he will miss the return leg in three weeks.
