Sunderland player Asamoah Gyan has revealed he would consider leaving the Stadium of Light for Old Trafford if Manchester United come calling for him. Gyan who used to support the Red Devils as a boy joined the Black Cats for a record £13 million last summer and has done well with 10 goals in 28 games, but he has admitted that he would love a move to Old Trafford.
About a possible move he said: “Of course I’m a big fan of Manchester United and will like to play for them if the chance comes my way”.
Meanwhile Gyan revealed that on-loan striker Danny Welbeck has not yet decided for which country to play should he be selected. Welbeck has represented England at the youth-level but is eligible to play for Ghana because of his parents. Gyan said: “He loves Ghana and watches our matches but said they are few things for him to decide on so we have to wait”.
Having seen Darren Bent leave for Aston Villa, the last thing Steve Bruce would need is for another of his strikers to basically attempt to orchastrate a move away from the Stadium of Light. One wonders why Asamoah Gyan even had to come up with this comment, not least because a move to Old Trafford would be most unlikely.
Sir Alex Ferguson already has three top notch strikers in his armoury in the form of Dimitar Berbatov, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez. Michael Owen can’t force his way near the first team picture due to injury but even if fully fit he would fail to get much of a chance in the first team, such is the plethora of talent ahead of him, so what chance would the Ghana international have?
That said, Gyan has started brightly at Sunderland scoring nine goals in 12 starts since his £13m move from Rennes last August.
