AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has been given a four match ban by Uefa after his head-butt on Tottenham assistant manager Joe Jordan.

The ban means the 33-year-old may never play Champions League football again.

The head-butt occurred after Milan’s 1-0 defeat to the North London side and sparked a melee amongst players and coaching staff from both sides.

During the game the Italian picked up a booking, meaning he would miss the return leg of the tie regardless of the ban, and grabbed Jordan by the throat.

Uefa’s Control and Disciplinary body have handed the midfielder a four-match ban, which will apply to the next four Uefa matches for which he is eligible.

But with Milan struggling to progress beyond Tottenham and looking to blood some younger players into the team, Gattuso could find his Milan career coming to an end.

He was offered to several clubs last summer, including Tottenham, and he may move at the end of this season.

Even if Gattuso stays at Milan there is no guarantee he will regain his European place after the ban is served.

“AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has been suspended for four Uefa club competition matches by the Uefa Control and Disciplinary Body,” a statement on Uefa’s website read.

“The Control and Disciplinary body ruled that Gattuso had assaulted the Tottenham Hotspur assistant coach Joe Jordan after the match.”

The ban means Gattuso, who has three days to appeal, would not be available until the final should Milan continue to progress.
