Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Wolfsburg playmaker Diego this summer as the Anfield side looks to add extra creativity to their squad. The Brazilian international only arrived at the Volkswagen Arena last summer but is reportedly unhappy at the Bundesliga club and may well be tempted by a move to the Premier League.
Liverpool’s director of football Damien Comolli has earmarked a move for the 25 year old former Juventus man and the recent sacking of manager Steve McClaren, the man who brought Diego back to Germany, may have created the condition of uncertainty at the Bundesliga club that could help assist the transfer to the Merseyside club.
Although Wolfsburg enjoy the financial backing of Volkswagen the recent sale of Edin Dzeko and the possible exit of highly rated centre back Simon Kjaer has left many at the club wondering what the long term ambitions of the club are. Just two seasons ago they lifted their first ever German title but are now sat in mid table.
£15m rated Diego enjoyed a fruitful period in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen where he spent three successful seasons but his return to the country has not gone according to plan and the talented midfielder has apparently fallen out with a number of his team-mates and could well be looking to leave Wolfsburg this summer.
Having signed Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll in January the club’s new owners are apparently ready to bankroll further new signings in the summer as caretaker boss Kenny Dalglish, who looks likely to be appointed on a permanent basis, tries to improve the club’s squad.
