Didier Drogba will quit Chelsea if he is dropped again for Tuesday night’s Premier League showdown with Manchester United, according to sources close to the player.
The 32-year-old Ivory Coast striker, who was signed for Chelsea by Jose Mourinho in 2004, has become increasingly disillusioned since being axed in favour of £50million signing Fernando Torres and would favour a move back to Marseille in the summer.
The potential stumbling block would be the fee Chelsea would require — possibly as much as £20m — and the inability of Marseille to match his wages of £130,000 a week.
But Drogba is said to be so angry at having been cast aside since Torres arrived on transfer deadline day that he is now determined to leave.
The striker is said to suspect that even a change of manager at the end of the season, when Carlo Ancelotti is expected to depart, will not help his cause as Torres is perceived to be the personal signing of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

You can hardly blame Didier Drogba for being angry about having to sit on the bench. Remember we are talking about last season’s Premier League top scorer and those who feel that the Ivory Coast striker has not performed well this season would do well to note that the 32 year old has still netted ten goals this term, which is more than Fernando Torres has managed with Liverpool and now in his first few outings for the Blues.
There has been much talk of Drogba looking to look for a new club and the striker has been linked with a move back to Marseille as well as to Turkish giants Galatasaray, but it is clear that he is still very much keen on staying at the West London club, but only if he gets first team football.
Drogba is clearly something of a cult hero at the Premier League champions and the supporters themselves must be wondering if it makes sense to bench their star striker and perhaps even question the wisdom of signing Torres at all.
For the record Didier Drogba has netted 135 goals in 241 starts and those stats may not increase if he sits out the match on Tuesday night.
